About product

1:144 General Electric GE90-94 with a stand — a LACI resin accessory

A resin accessory in 1:144 scale for builders of models of airliners. The subject of the set is the General Electric GE90 engine nacelle in the 94 version, that is of one of the engines of the Boeing 777. According to the name it is the form with a stand, so the casting will serve as an exhibit displayed on its own as well. With an engine of such dimensions working with resin is an advantage: the thin leading edge of the intake and the deep inner wall of the nacelle look substantially more faithful in a casting than in a split injection mold.

The real subject

The GE90 is a family of turbofan engines from General Electric, developed exclusively for the Boeing 777. It is among the first engines in service with fan blades of composite and is famous for an exceptional fan diameter, which makes the nacelle the most conspicuous element of the whole aircraft. The GE90-94 version powers the older long-range variants of the 777. In modeling terms the key thing is that compared with the contemporary Airbus engines the GE90 nacelle is markedly bulkier and shorter in proportion to its diameter — the silhouette of the aircraft stands on it.

Building and painting tips

Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap, so no mold release agent stays on it. Cut the pour blocks away with a saw and level the surface with a file or sanding paper — resin sands more softly and faster than plastic, so there is a risk of taking off more than you wanted. Glue with super glue and make any gaps good with filler or with thicker super glue with an activator. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the intake of the engine and the inside of the nacelle before you close the part up and glue it to the pylon, as you will not get in there later.

Who the accessory is for

  • For builders of airliners in 1:144 scale
  • For owners of models of the Boeing 777 who want more accurate nacelles
  • For collectors displaying models of engines on their own
  • For modelers with experience of resin

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
