Mark IV Airship tug 1:144 is a kit of the British Mark IV tank converted for handling airships on the ground. From Brengun.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit in 1:144 scale captures a little-known form of the British Mark IV heavy tank: a machine without combat armament, converted for towing and holding airships during handling on the ground. For collectors of small scales it is a rewarding subject, because it practically never turns up and in combination with an airship or airfield scene it makes an inventive theme. The number of parts and the material are stated on the box.
The rhomboid Mark IV had a very low speed but high tractive effort and the ability to move over muddy ground — qualities that came in useful outside combat as well. Disarmed machines therefore served in auxiliary roles, among them handling large airborne craft, whose movement on the ground called for steady pull against the wind. The body stayed recognizably that of a tank, but the armament in the sponsons is absent.
The model stands out in context — count on a display base or a small scene where it will be clear what the machine is for. Try the parts dry first, fill the gaps between the hull and the side plates with thin putty and sand them back with fine abrasive paper and water. Given the auxiliary role, a worn look suits it better: a base shade, fine wear on the edges with a dry brush and dust pigment on the lower parts. Lay any gloss coat under decals on thinly, otherwise it will fill the fine relief.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
