This item is not a kit. It is an accessory photo-etched set from the Czech maker Brengun, who has long specialized in aftermarket accessories for small scales. The fret holds parts etched from thin metal sheet that are fitted to the Eduard plastic MiG-21 SMT model. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
The MiG-21 SMT is one of the late versions of the Soviet single-engine supersonic fighter from the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. At first glance it differs from the older versions in its greatly enlarged dorsal hump, which housed an additional fuel tank. That silhouette is exactly what makes the SMT an easily recognizable piece in a collection.
A MiG-21 model measures roughly ten centimeters in 1:144 scale. Injected plastic has physical limits: it cannot manage sharp thin edges, fine grilles or flat pressings, because a mold has to keep a certain minimum wall thickness. Etched sheet runs in tenths of a millimeter, so parts made from it match the scaled thickness of real sheet metal and look natural even from close up.
Do not break the parts out of the fret; cut them off with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, ideally glass or metal. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file or a sanding sponge. Degrease the whole fret with alcohol before you start and do not touch it with bare fingers afterwards. Make the bends in a modeling bending tool or between two razor blades, place small parts with tweezers and bond them with super glue applied on the tip of a pin. Paint does not hold on metal on its own, so use a primer and only then the covering shade.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not include. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the model itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
