Rolls Royce RB211-22 Early is a resin accessory in 1:144 scale — a more accurate replacement for the engine nacelle on a model of an airliner. It is not a kit of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory set cast from modeling resin, intended as a more accurate replacement for the engine and the nacelle on a model of an airliner in 1:144 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft or a complete kit — the set deals only with the powerplant and assumes that you will build the airframe from a base kit. The Early designation distinguishes the early variant of the engine from the later one, which the manufacturer offers separately; choose the one that matches the machine and the period you are building. With sets of this kind the difference between one engine and a pair is essential, so check the number of pieces on the packaging of the set.
The RB211 was the first three-shaft turbofan engine with a high bypass ratio to enter service. The design with three concentric shafts allowed every stage to work at its optimum speed and shortened the engine compared with its two-shaft competitors, at the cost of a more complex structure. The RB211-22 version was the initial service variant of the whole family and differs from the later forms in the shape and external arrangement of the nacelle, which on a model is precisely what is visible. Early and late machines can be told apart from the outside, so it makes sense to choose the variant according to the particular subject you are building.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry properly — that removes residue of the mold release agent, on which paint does not hold. Do not break the casting remnants and pour blocks off: cut them away with a fine-toothed saw, or cut at the point where the pour block joins, and level the surface with a file or with wet-sanded paper. Resin sands differently from plastic — it goes faster and its dust must not be inhaled, so work wet or with respiratory protection. It is glued exclusively with super glue; ordinary polystyrene cement does not attack resin and the joint will not hold. Before gluing, check by a dry fit that the mounting seats on the pylon, and level out any deviation by sanding the mating surface down. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise a shade behaves differently on smooth resin than on plastic.
This is a resin accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
