1:144 U.S. Airfield crane is a diorama accessory, not a vehicle kit. It brings a US airfield crane in 1:144 scale for scenes of aircraft maintenance and handling.
Responsibility details are not available.
A diorama accessory from the Czech maker Brengun. It is not an aircraft model but a piece of ground equipment that creates action on an apron. Lifting equipment is rewarding on a diorama precisely because it explains what is going on in the scene, whether that is an engine change, recovering a machine or routine maintenance. The set is built on its own and seated on finished terrain.
An airfield crane is mobile lifting equipment used on aprons and in hangars to handle heavy assemblies, mainly engines, units and damaged parts of the airframe. US units had cranes as a standard part of their ground equipment both at home bases and at forward airfields. Structurally it is a chassis with a slewing boom and outriggers; operationally it is a machine you see wherever repairs are going on.
Build and paint the crane completely away from the base and only then seat it in the scene. If you want to show the boom in the working position, think the angle through before you glue the parts, because once the glue has set there is nothing to be done about it. Paint the cab and the frame in a uniform base shade and dry-brush the hydraulics and the cable in a metal color. Credibility comes from fine dust on the lower part and traces of oil under the boom, applied as dots rather than over whole areas. A load hanging from the crane is a good addition, which turns a static accessory into a story being told.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
