About product

IAE V2500-A5 early standard for the Airbus A320, 1:144 scale

A resin engine nacelle for a model of the Airbus A320 in 1:144 scale, in the standard marked as early. This is a detail accessory that replaces the plastic parts of the base kit. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box; the Airbus A320 carries two engines.

The real subject

The V2500 is a turbofan with a high bypass ratio from an international consortium of manufacturers, and on the A320 family it is the alternative to the competing CFM56 series. The A5 subseries is exactly the one used on the A320, and it can be told from the CFM56 mainly by a different shape of intake and a different solution of the exhaust section with thrust reversers. The installation went through changes during production, so an early and a later standard are distinguished. This item corresponds to the early one, which matters for modelers building a particular machine from a particular period, because confusing the two standards is clearly apparent on the finished model seen from behind.

Installation and painting tips

Wash and degrease the casting first. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface so that the nacelle seats on the pylon across its whole surface. The droop and toe of the engine is set by the pylon, so only fine-tune the nacelle to it and do not try to change the angle by pressure while gluing. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside of the intake duct and the fan blades before you close the nacelle up. A smooth glossy base belongs on the cowling, because airline color schemes are usually bold on the engines and will betray every unevenness. If you are building a particular machine, compare the shape of the rear section of the nacelle with the documentation for that period.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Airbus A320 with the V2500 engine fit in 1:144 scale
  • Modelers who are building a particular machine from an earlier period of service
  • Collections of the A320 family distinguished by engine variant
  • More experienced builders with experience of resin

The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The number of pieces is stated on the box. The Airbus A320 has two engines, so two nacelles are needed for a complete model.

The V2500 installation on the A320 changed during production and the maker of the set distinguishes both standards. Go by the documentation for the machine and the period you are building.

It is not. These are two different engine fits for the same family of aircraft with a different shape of intake and exhaust section. The sets are not mutually interchangeable.

As a rule the pylon from the base kit is used and only the mating surface is adjusted.
