A detail set in photo-etched metal in 1:16 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. The contents are the covers of the exhaust system in the shape carried by Tiger I vehicles in the configuration used in North Africa with the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion. This is explicitly an accessory for experienced modelers, not a tank kit: the base model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package. The particular number of parts and the list of compatible kits are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The exhaust covers are among the most conspicuous features at the rear of the hull, and in plastic the manufacturers necessarily mold them as solid, thick-walled parts. Photo-etched metal makes it possible to reproduce them in a matching sheet thickness, including the perforations and the mounting hardware. In 1:16 scale, where the model is large and the detail cannot be hidden, the difference from a plastic part is clear at first glance.
Cut the photo-etched parts out with a scalpel or with special shears on a hard surface, never by tearing them away. Make the folds in a bending tool or between two blades so that the edge is sharp and straight. Degrease the metal first and apply a base coat intended for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint will not hold. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or by soldering; on larger parts soldering gives a stronger joint. Before fitting, check that the plastic part on the model has been sanded flat so that the etched part seats over its whole area.
This is a detail accessory for building a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
