This is a diorama accessory for a scene, not a model of a car. A storage tank for fuel is exactly the kind of object that gives a scene both scale and a story at once: beside a model of a vehicle it explains why the car is standing there, and at the same time it offers a rewarding surface for rust, dust and oil stains. The 1:24 scale matches common automobile kits, so you can stand the tank right next to a finished model or a figure in the same scale. The execution follows the period focus of the whole line on the 1960s and 1970s.
With the tank it pays to give time to the surface before painting: a metal tank never has perfectly smooth walls, so slight unevenness and suggested welds will only help the realism. Paint the base shade, let it cure and build the rust from the bottom up: first dark streaks in the places where water runs down, then orange spots at the welds and at the bottom, and finally edges picked out with a dry brush. The chipping technique proves itself here, where a chipping medium is applied under the top coat and the paint cracks once it is moistened. Around the tank do not forget the ground: greasy stains and a dark deposit at the draw-off point will do more for believability than the best paint on the tank itself.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
