A decal set for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 in the colors of the Romanian Air Force, scale 1:24. It covers two machines in the shades RLM 74, RLM 75 and RLM 76 and adds pre-cut masks for the canopy glazing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Romanian Air Force entered the fighting in June 1941 and its fighter groups relied at first on older equipment of domestic and foreign manufacture. Messerschmitts of the G series began arriving in the units during 1943 and were committed over the Crimea, over Moldavia and later also against American formations heading for the oil fields near Ploiesti. In August 1944 the country turned against Germany and the same machines went on with the war on the opposite side.
The sheet covers two aircraft. The first is the white one of the pilot Dumitru Encioiu of the 53rd Squadron of the 7th Fighter Group, the second the machine of Lieutenant Ion Dicezare of the 9th Fighter Group, captured as it was in 1944. Both aircraft carried the German shades RLM 74, RLM 75 and RLM 76, so the painting sequence is common to both options and the difference comes only with the markings.
Pre-cut films for framing the canopy are part of the set. At 1:24 the glazing is large and every inaccurate line of the frame is visible at first glance, so ready-made cutouts save a lot of time.
The base has to be glossy, otherwise matte edges will appear around the motifs. Take the decals off the paper only once they come free in water, carry them with a brush and settle them on a damp surface. A decal softener will help the motif hug rivets and panel lines; soak up the excess water with a cloth and finally secure the surface with matte varnish. The aircraft model, glue and paints have to be obtained separately.
