A free-standing relief valve for builders of car models in 1:24 scale. It completes the induction route of a turbocharged engine with a part that kits of production cars practically never hold. The manufacturer is the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts, which specializes in tuning details for car models.
A blow-off valve sits in the pipework between the turbocharger and the throttle. The moment the driver lifts off, the throttle closes and the compressed air has nowhere to go, so the pressure wave comes back against the turbo wheel and slows it down. The valve releases it into the atmosphere or back into the intake, which protects the turbo and keeps its revs up. The characteristic hiss on a gearshift that made the tuning scene famous comes from exactly this part.
It is one of the smallest parts you will come across in car modeling, and the procedure has to match that. Leave the casting on the casting block until you have painted it; separate it only then, and with a new razor blade drawn through rather than pressed, as with small resin parts breaking one off almost always means a chipped corner. Working under a magnifier or with a head-worn magnifier is not excessive here. Level the mark left by the gate with a fine file and polish the surface over with a sanding sponge of the finest grit, so that a metallic shade does not bring the scratches out. The valve usually has a polished aluminum body, so it looks best in a bright metal shade with crisp edges; apply thin coats, as a thick coat of metallic paint floods the detail. It is glued with a minimum of super glue, carried over on the tip of a pin, into a hole drilled in the pipework.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The part is supplied unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
