An injection-molded plastic kit of the Lotus Europa Special sports car in 1:24 scale from the Japanese brand Fujimi. The release belongs to a licensed range inspired by a Japanese comic series about motor racing, so the model captures the car in the form in which the hero of the story drives it. The extent of the differences from the ordinary release, the number of parts and the makeup of the decal sheet are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Lotus Europa was a British sports car with the engine mounted amidships, that is with a layout which until then had appeared mainly on racing cars. The concept grew out of the brand's philosophy: the lowest possible weight, a small frontal area and an emphasis on handling rather than on raw power. Characteristic of the car are its extremely low build, the flat nose and the tall rear side panels behind the cabin. The Special version was the later, more powerful form of the model range. In the Japanese popular culture of the 1970s the Europa became an iconic car thanks to the comic series mentioned, and the modeling subject follows on from that wave.
A low body with large smooth surfaces will not take careless preparation, so sand the parting seams thoroughly and use a filler primer. Apply the gloss finish with an airbrush in thin coats and let it cure. If the release contains two-color comic markings, settle the decals onto a gloss surface, help them with a softener so that they settle into the edges, and seal them with a clear coat at the end. Finish the interior and the engine bay before you close the body up.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
