An injection-molded plastic kit of the competition Lancer Evolution IV in the version for the Safari Rally of 1997. The 1:24 scale is the most widespread format for automobile models, so the finished car easily takes its place in a collection beside other competition and production cars. Hasegawa is known for clean molds and exact body shapes.
The Lancer Evolution IV was the fourth generation of the Mitsubishi competition line, built on the Lancer sedan with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine of two liters and all-wheel drive. The Safari Rally in Kenya was among the toughest events of the calendar: long special stages on dusty and stony roads, high temperatures, a water crossing and the risk of a collision with game. Cars for this event were therefore built differently from the European specification, with a raised ride height, thorough protection of the underbody and the front end, additional headlamps and better filtering of the intake air.
First sand the body down carefully and spray on a base coat, because every unevenness will show up under a gloss finish. Apply the paint and the clear coat in thin layers and let them cure thoroughly, and only then glue the glazing and the accessories on. Settle the sponsors' decals on a gloss surface and secure them with a softener, so that they conform to the edges and the pressings. Finish the interior and the roll cage before you close the body up. If you want the car in competition condition, add fine dust and dried mud to the underbody and the sills, but leave the upper part of the body clean, or the model will lose its gloss.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
