A resin accessory for dioramas in 1:24 scale from AK interactive. It represents a freestanding street collection mailbox of the American postal service with its characteristic rounded lid and tilting deposit flap. The accessory is intended as scenery for car models, not as a vehicle kit. It is a small element in size, but one that immediately places a scene in a particular country — it is one of the most recognizable pieces of American street furniture.
The blue street collection boxes of the American postal service stand on street corners, by shopping centers and in front of post offices. The rounded top cover, the tilting flap with a handle and the sturdy legs anchored into the sidewalk are typical. The colors changed over the decades; today's form is settled in dark blue. The boxes are permanently outdoors, so scuffed spots by the flap, dust at the foot and the marks of stickers accumulate on them quickly — rewarding details for weathering.
First wash the resin castings with lukewarm water and dish soap — otherwise the remains of the mold release agent from the mold will not let the paint hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutter, and never break them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust does not belong in the lungs. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and ordinary glue for plastic does not work here. Apply a primer before painting, after which ordinary modeling acrylics are enough. The credibility comes only with the weathering: a dark wash in the recesses, light scuffs on the edges and dust pigment at the foot of the part.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
