This plastic kit from the Japanese maker Aoshima captures the Toyota Hilux pickup with the chassis designation YN86 in the treatment the manufacturer lists under the name New Old School, that is a modern take on the classic Japanese custom pickup. The set is intended to be assembled and painted and belongs among car models in the usual collector's scale of 1:24.
The fifth-generation Hilux was built from the late 1980s to the middle of the 1990s and is one of the most widespread utility pickups of all. Codes beginning with the letters YN mark versions with a gasoline four-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive. The plain cab with an open bed is a popular basis for modification in Japan: wider wheels, different lights, lowered or alternatively lifted suspension and paintwork in striking shades.
With car models it is the quality of the paintwork that decides. First clean the body of parting lines and flash, spray it with filler primer and lay the finish on in several thin coats; bring out the final gloss by polishing. Mask the glazing and the chrome parts, knock the rubber parts back to matte and pick out the gaps between the panels lightly with a flowing paint. Build and paint the interior, the chassis and the bed before you close the body up, because once it is glued you can no longer reach them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
