A kit of the Skoda Favorit in the Rallye 96 rally trim, 1:28 scale, from the Czech manufacturer Smer. Unlike the civilian version this is the racing form of the car: the model is finished with stickers carrying the competition markings, which turn an ordinary Favorit into a car off a rally stage. The key quality stays the same: the KLIKLAK system means that the plastic parts click into one another and no glue is needed. The build is therefore quick, clean and free of chemistry. Paints, thinner and brushes are not included in the package. The finished car measures roughly 13.5 cm long and 6.7 cm wide.
The Skoda Favorit was produced from 1987 and was the first modern Skoda with the engine at the front and front-wheel drive; the body was designed by the Italian studio Bertone. Yet the Favorit did not go down in history only as a family car: in competition trim it also made its name in rallying. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s it was among the notable cars of its capacity class and the works Skoda crews collected successes with it at World Championship events as well, where the Favorit managed to beat markedly richer rivals in the same category. For Czech motorsport fans the Favorit in racing markings is a strong and nostalgic subject, the car that proved a win is possible on a limited budget too.
Nip the parts from the sprue with sprue cutters and level the remnants of the gates, as a clean part clicks home better. Try the joints dry first and do not force them together. With the rally version we recommend painting the model before the final snapping together: the competition markings come out only on a smooth and even base. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, apply a thin coat of primer and only then the covering color. Apply the stickers only to a perfectly dry and smooth finish, and lay the larger markings down from the center toward the edges. Anyone who wants to go further can weather the racing car lightly, as fine dust on the flanks and deposits behind the wheels turn the model into a car that has just finished a special stage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Thanks to the KLIKLAK system no glue is needed for assembly, but paints, thinner and brushes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
