A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set in 1:32 scale for the AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter. It is not a model or a part of one — it is an accessory for a kit you already own, which does away with the tedious cutting of masking tape. The MAX designation tells this item apart from the basic set of the same name; this is therefore the extended version.
The AH-1G has a very narrow fuselage and a tandem cockpit — the gunner in front, the pilot behind him and higher up. The canopy is not a smooth teardrop but an assembly of flat panels separated by dense framing, and it is precisely this division that makes masking by hand such a nuisance: every panel wants its own piece of tape and the edges are hard to line up into a single run. A pre-cut mask does away with that work. The landing gear is of the skid type, so masking tires does not arise; all the more, then, a clean transition around the glazing, the instrument covers and the sighting elements in the nose is what counts.
Before you peel the backing paper off, offer the mask up dry on the particular clear part and compare the cut with the frames. The set is cut to the ICM kit and even a small difference between revisions of the mold shows on the edges. Degrease the part beforehand and handle it only by its edges. Press the mask down with a blunt toothpick from the center out to the edges, so that paint cannot run under the edge, and spray in thin coats. Take it off at a sharp angle while the paint has only just dried — once it has cured completely, the varnish under the mask comes away easily too.
This is an accessory for a kit. The base ICM kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
