About product

Armament of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero fighter 1:32 (Aber)

A set of turned metal parts in 1:32 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a model of an airplane but an accessory to a kit of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero fighter. The set replaces the plastic barrels of the onboard armament with metal ones, with an open muzzle and the right cross section. On top of that metal stands up to handling and to sanding around it without the barrel bending. The exact breakdown and the number of parts follow the contents of the particular package.

The real subject

The Mitsubishi A6M5 was the most widespread production version of the Japanese carrier-borne Zero fighter, introduced in 1943. Against the earlier versions it received a shortened wing with rounded tips, an improved exhaust system and, step by step, heavier armament and armor as well. The basis of the armament was 20 mm automatic wing cannons backed by machine guns in the nose of the fuselage; on later subversions heavier machine guns appeared too. The Zero was among the best-known aircraft of the Pacific theater of the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

Fit the barrels only once the wing and the nose have been finished and sanded, or they risk being bent. Carefully redrill the holes if needed, so that the part sits on the axis. Degrease the metal and go over it with a base coat (a primer). The barrels are usually left in a dark metallic tone, while fairings and cowlings are matched to the scheme of the airframe. On Japanese machines traces of exhaust fumes and worn paint around the muzzles look good.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Japanese carrier-borne fighters in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want the complete faithful armament in one purchase
  • More experienced modelers working with fine metal parts
  • Collectors of Second World War aircraft armament accessories

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
