About product

From the Pacific to a flying museum

This sheet brings together two subjects separated by decades. One captures a bomber as it was at the end of the war in the Pacific, the other a machine that can be seen at air shows today. Its value lies exactly in that: it makes it possible to build either a period aircraft or a carefully maintained veteran in its present-day guise.

The Ink Squirts

The first machine is the Mitchell with the serial number 43-28149 and the inscription The Ink Squirts, from 1945. It was tied to the 98th naval engineer unit, that is, to the formation known as the Seabees, which built and maintained airfields on the Pacific islands. The base of the aircraft was Sydney Island. The supplier expressly gives the name of the creator of the nose art as well, Jack Kellogg, which is a fairly rare detail with period inscriptions.

Pacific Prowler

The second subject is the aircraft listed under the number 44-30823A and named Pacific Prowler. It belongs to no wartime unit but to a flying museum in Fort Worth, Texas, where it is kept in airworthy condition. The modeler can therefore build the machine in the guise in which it exists to this day.

The difference between the two guises

The period and the present-day form are not usually the same thing. Veterans still being operated tend to have different cockpit details, reworked armament and, above all, a cleaner finish that is renewed more regularly. Before building, therefore, it is worth deciding which of those two paths you want to take.

What is inside

The package contains a printed sheet for release in water. Plastic parts and paints do not belong to it.

FAQ

A present-day one. It is an aircraft of a flying museum in Fort Worth, kept in airworthy condition, not a wartime finish.

The naval construction units of the United States. They built and maintained airfields, harbors and support facilities on the Pacific islands, often shortly after the territory was taken.

It is intended for 1:32 scale and for version J. Check that your kit represents this version, because the earlier form has a differently handled nose.

You do not. You are buying the markings on their own; the kit and the paints are obtained separately.
