This is not a kit but a set of waterslide decals in 1:32 scale. It lets you finish a model of the Spanish license-built version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, known as the Hispano Aviación HA-1112, in one of several striking airshow schemes in which these machines flew at air shows in the 1990s. The decals include registrations, display titles and the accompanying markings.

The real subject

The HA-1112 was built in Spain as a license continuation of the Bf 109; because of the powerplants available, the M1L version received the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, which markedly changed the shape of the nose compared with the German originals with the Daimler-Benz engine. It was exactly these surviving machines that became sought-after participants at air displays and in film productions and carried strong, crowd-pleasing color schemes.

Use

• Lift the decal off the sheet, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it soften.
• Apply it onto a gloss coat, which prevents silvering under the decal.
• Settle it with a decal softener and blot the surplus water away gently.
• Once dry, go over it with matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the character of the subject.
