A wooden deck 1:700 USS Minneapolis CA-36 is an aftermarket accessory to a ship kit: a thin veneer with the laying of the deck planks printed on it, which will replace the smooth plastic part of the Trumpeter 05744 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit of the ship but an accessory to one. It is a thin wooden veneer with a self-adhesive base, on which the laying of the deck planks is printed. It is glued onto the plastic deck of the Trumpeter 05744 kit and thus replaces its engraved surface with a real wooden structure. The difference is visible at once: wood has a pattern and a depth of its own that painted plastic cannot imitate. The set is worked in 1:700 scale, that is for small ship models, where the surface of the deck carries most of the visual impression.
The USS Minneapolis CA-36 was an American heavy cruiser of the New Orleans class. The ships of this class had extensive open deck areas between the gun turrets and the superstructures, so a wooden deck comes into play on the model over the whole area. It is precisely on cruisers that the area of the deck tends to be the largest continuous area of the whole model.
The preparation of the base matters most. First rid the plastic deck of burrs and flash, sand the unevenness down and degrease the area, as on greasy or dusty plastic the self-adhesive layer gives way in time and the edges of the veneer begin to lift. Check the flatness of the part as well; a bowed deck can be evened out before gluing with slight pressure. Lay the veneer on dry first and verify that the outline and the positions of the cutouts agree. Only then take the backing film off.
The accessory is supplied on its own. The ship kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
