The Curtiss P-40 was an American single-engine fighter with a V12 Allison engine and a characteristic radiator under the forward part of the fuselage. Version N was a late production series in which the designers concentrated on reducing weight: the armament, the cooling and the glazing behind the cockpit were all reworked so that the machine would gain in performance. The type served with many allied air arms in various theaters, and in 1:32 scale its size makes it a rewarding subject for detailing.
Separate the photo-etched parts on a hard mat with a sharp knife, not with pliers, because the metal would otherwise deform. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades. Degrease the parts with alcohol before gluing and, if need be, lay down a thin layer of primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal. Color photo-etched parts are glued with spots of cyanoacrylate glue or with a glue for clear parts, which leaves no milky haze. In a large scale the rule is that photo-etched parts stand out mainly where they can be seen: in the cockpit, on the landing gear and in the engine bay. Work in complete sections and let the glue cure properly.
