About product

1:32 Douglas A-26B Invader cockpit interior — Eduard photo-etched interior

A set of photo-etched parts by the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended to detail the cockpit of the 1:32 Douglas A-26B Invader plastic model. It belongs to the photo-etched lines of Eduard, not among the masks or decals: the parts are glued on permanently and replace the simplified plastic equipment of the cockpit. Compared with the compact pre-painted Zoom sets, which mainly cover the instrument panel and the belts, an interior set aims more widely at the whole cockpit. It is not an airplane model but an accessory to a kit you already own.

The real subject

The cockpit of the A-26B was fairly cramped for a twin-engine attack aircraft and generously glazed, so once the model is finished you can see well into it in 1:32 scale. It held an instrument panel, side panels with the engine controls, a seat with a harness and a number of small consoles. Injection-molded plastic renders these features only in coarse relief, because a mold cannot produce free-standing levers and frames.

Building and painting tips

Build and paint the interior before you close the fuselage — you cannot get inside afterwards. Cut the parts off with a scalpel on glass or on a metal plate and sand the tabs down. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer; without it the paint cracks and peels off the smooth surface. Make the folds in a bending tool, hold the small parts with fine-jawed tweezers and work over a tray, not over the floor. Apply super glue in minimal amounts — any excess turns white and shows up against the dark cockpit color. Let instrument panels with backed dials dry and put a drop of gloss varnish into the dial openings to create glass. Finish with a dry brush in a lighter shade and a dark wash in the recesses.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building in large scale with an open canopy.
  • Those for whom the relief of plastic instruments is not enough.
  • Builders experienced with tweezers, a scalpel and super glue.
  • Anyone interested in close-up photographs of the finished model.

The set contains photo-etched parts only. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The interior is built and painted first; once the fuselage halves are joined you no longer have access to it.

Yes. On degreased bare metal the paint will not hold without a base coat and it peels off when handled.

No, this interior set is in bare metal and is painted by hand. Pre-painted parts come in other lines of Eduard.
