A detailing set of photo-etched parts aimed at the landing gear of a large model of the A-26 Invader in the C version in 1:32 scale. The package does not contain a model — in it are frets with parts etched from thin sheet, which replace or supplement the simplified plastic parts of a kit. The maker is the Czech firm Eduard.
The landing gear and the gear bays are among the most visible places on aircraft models: the model stands on its wheels and open bays can be seen from below and from the side when it is displayed. Injection-molded plastic runs into its limits here — the reinforcement of the bays, the small brackets, the rods and the shields come out too thick. Photo-etched sheet is far thinner, so thin-walled features match the scale and the whole gear compartment comes across as deeper and with more shapes.
Separate the parts from the fret with photo-etch shears or a scalpel on a hard surface, never break them out. Make the bends in a bender or between two blades so that the edge comes out sharp. They are glued with superglue, and the gel variant gives more time to position the part precisely. Degrease the metal before painting and spray a primer over it — otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and will rub off while the model is handled. It is practical to finish and paint the gear bays before the fuselage and the wings are closed up.
The package contains photo-etched parts only, not a model, paints or glue. The set is cut for a particular kit, so check before buying that it matches the model you are building.
