The shade under the number FS 33531 is a pale, slightly greenish yellow. It is used on warning and recognition elements, on the surfaces of airfield ground equipment and everywhere the color should be visible but not shouting. The standardized number makes it possible to compare the shade with those of other manufacturers as well, which comes in handy when a bottle runs out in the middle of a job.
The binder is water-thinnable and the surface stays semi-gloss once dry. A water binder allows thinning with water on absorbent surfaces, but on a smooth surface the thinner of the same line proves itself. The paint cannot be mixed with the lacquer ranges of the same manufacturer.
Over a gray or dark base the shade would need many coats and would lose its brightness. On larger areas it therefore pays to reach for a white base in a spray can, which evens the surface out faster than spraying from a gun.
Light yellows got dirty quickly in practice, so on hardware in service they tended to look muted. A fine gray wash and light dusting of the lower areas will give a model credibility better than a perfectly clean surface.
