The sheet from the American maker Two Bobs holds markings for the F-15S, the export variant of the two-seat strike Eagle delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force. The package holds decals exclusively; the plastic kit in 1:32 scale has to be obtained separately. For the modeler the sheet is a way to build, from an ordinary kit, a machine that appears among available decals considerably less often than the American versions.
The F-15E Strike Eagle came about as the two-seat strike variant of an originally pure fighter type — the rear seat was taken by a weapon systems operator, the airframe received a strengthened structure and conformal fuel tanks hugging the fuselage. The designation F-15S is carried by the export form delivered to Saudi Arabia, which is based on that standard. The finish of Middle Eastern machines differs from the American ones both in shades and in lettering — Arabic lettering and different national insignia are precisely what an ordinary kit does not have in the box.
Before applying, lay the markings out dry on the model and note their position against the panel lines; on a two-seat Eagle it is easy to overlook that an element sits one panel further along than you expect. Work on gloss, fully cured clear. Cut the individual elements close to the artwork and soak one at a time. Small technical lettering often wrinkles on riveted joints — a drop of decal softener and patience will help, with no pressing down by finger. Once it has dried, clear coat the model matte or semi-matte according to the character of the finish; only then does a decal blend visually with the surface.
