Masking set for the ground-attack Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 in 1:32 scale. It masks the canopy from both faces and adds a pair of masks for the national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fw 190F-8 came about by converting the fighter A-8 for work over the battlefield. The designers removed the outer wing cannon, added armor plates under the pilot and the engine and hung a bomb rack under the fuselage. The aircraft served with ground-attack wings on the Eastern Front and over Italy, and their daily work looked different from that of high-altitude fighters: low flying, anti-aircraft fire at close range and landings on muddy field strips.
The set brings the greatest benefit where you want cleanly separated areas of glazing and straight frame edges. A single application replaces dozens of small cuts and the result is repeatable even if you come back to the build a week later.
If you are aiming for the heavily worn finish of the Eastern Front, where the insignia are oversprayed with winter paint and redrawn with a brush in the field, an insignia mask loses part of its point. Such a surface is built up by layering and abrading anyway, and a precise edge disappears beneath it. In that case you will mainly use the parts for the glazing and set the insignia masks aside for another project.
The paper holds best on a degreased, smooth surface. Fingerprints on the clear part will show under the paint, so touch the molding through a cloth.
Combining the two is no problem. Spray the large insignia through the masks and apply the small inscriptions, numbers or tactical markings with decals. One rule that is easily overlooked applies here: a decal needs a smooth gloss intermediate coat, whereas a paper mask holds on a matte, dry surface. Keep the two stages apart and do not mix them into one evening.
