A masking sheet intended so that the markings on a model of the Kittyhawk IV in 1:32 scale arise by spraying, not by sticking decals on. There are no plastic parts and no paints in the package – it is an accessory to a model you obtain separately. The set is tied to one particular machine nicknamed Leslie.
Under the designation Kittyhawk IV, the air forces of the British Commonwealth flew P-40N machines, the last large production versions of the whole family. The type never belonged among the highest-performing fighters of its day, but it was solid, it stood up to rough field airfields and it took a hit well – which is why it stayed in service until the end of the war, mainly as a fighter-bomber. The N version is recognized by its lightened airframe and by the rear part of the canopy with a large glazed area.
A decal is always one thin extra layer: it has a carrier film of its own, which on matte varnish shows as a glossy outline, and on an intricate surface it breaks or bubbles form under it. Sprayed markings do not have that problem, because they are part of the finish – they look like real paint on metal, weathering can be done over them without worry and there is no risk of them moving while a further coat is laid on. The price is the labor: every field is sprayed separately and in order from the light shades to the dark. In the large 1:32 scale, where every detail is twice as conspicuous as in 1:48 scale, that work pays off most.
