This kit in the large 1:32 scale covers the French Nieuport 23 fighter in the form used by the British Royal Flying Corps. Copper State Models specializes in aircraft of the First World War and this item fits into a coherent line in which the brand gradually releases the individual variants of the Nieuports and other period types. The 1:32 scale allows the wooden framework, the bracing wires and the engine bay to be worked out in detail, so the model looks very impressive in a display case. The Nieuport 23 was a single-seat fighter of French design from the period of the First World War, closely related to the better known Nieuport 17. It was a sesquiplane: a biplane whose lower wing had a markedly smaller area and a single load-bearing spar. It was powered by a rotary engine and the machine was noted for its good agility. Besides the French units it was used by other Allied air services as well, including the British Royal Flying Corps.
Biplane models live and die by the accurate alignment of the wings. Always dry-fit the struts and glue them in gradually, checking the dihedral and the angle of incidence against the drawing. We recommend leaving the rigging wires until after painting; fine filament or elastic thread can be used. Doped fabric covering is imitated well with light, translucent coats of paint, and the wooden parts of the propeller with a sand-colored undercoat and an oil glaze for the grain.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
