A photo-etched set for a model of the Panavia Tornado GR.4 combat aircraft in 1:32 from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The package does not contain a model, only a fret of fine metal parts with which the plastic parts of a kit are replaced or supplemented. Etched metal is a few tenths of a millimeter thick, so it captures the thickness of real sheet-metal panels, consoles and grilles better than injection-molded plastic does. The name of the set does not say which part of the model the parts cover, so we recommend checking the extent before buying; Eduard offers several sets of different scope for the same aircraft in the same scale.
The Panavia Tornado GR.4 was the British strike variant of the two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, created in collaboration between European manufacturers. The GR.4 form came about by upgrading the earlier GR.1 standard and concerned above all the avionics, the navigation and targeting systems and the integration of new armament. The external hallmarks of the type remain the wing with a variable sweep angle, the tandem two-seat cockpit and the substantial thrust reverser buckets on the engine nacelles.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, so that they are not bent. Make the folds along the scored lines, ideally in a bending tool or between two razor blades. Bond with cyanoacrylate glue in a minimal amount, applied with a pin or a wire. The plastic parts that the etched metal replaces have to be sanded away completely in advance, otherwise the overall thickness increases and the assembly goes out of true. Degrease bare metal before painting and spray it with a primer. Dry-fit as you go, as a number of etched parts can no longer be corrected once the fuselage is closed.
The accessory is supplied unassembled. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
