A set of turned metal barrels in 1:32 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a model of an airplane but an accessory to a kit of a German First World War aircraft. The package holds a pair of barrels for the lMG 08/15 aircraft machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber, nicknamed the Spandau. It is precisely the perforated cooling jacket that on this weapon is a detail which cannot be made faithfully by injection molding in plastic, so the metal part lifts a model markedly. The exact breakdown of the parts follows the contents of the particular package.
The lMG 08/15 was the aircraft adaptation of the German 7.92 mm heavy machine gun of the First World War period. Water cooling gave way to air cooling with a characteristic perforated jacket and the weapon was lightened so that it could be fixed in front of the pilot and the fire synchronized with the revolutions of the propeller. The name Spandau came from the name of the state arsenal marked on the weapon and it took root in both modeling and aviation literature. A pair of these machine guns was the typical armament of German fighters at the end of the war.
Separate the parts with a fine cut and try them dry against the mounting in front of the cockpit. Degrease the metal and go over it with a base coat (a primer). The cooling jacket looks best in a dark steel-like shade with a gentle dry brush on the edges of the perforations; pick the muzzle out with a dark wash. On all-wood fuselages take care that the barrels are parallel and on the axis of the aircraft.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
