A set for the Spitfire with the universal wing. It contains masking of the cockpit glazing on both faces, a pair of roundel stencils and supplementary decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The C is not a separate version but a wing designation: the designers reworked it so that the same structure would take either four machine guns and two cannon, or four cannon outright. Most of the machines flew in the Mediterranean and in North Africa, where they were given a bulky dust filter under the nose and a sandy camouflage. This airframe also saw service over Malta and in Australia.
An experienced builder will confirm that on this cockpit it is not the large sliding section that holds you up but the small triangular window beside the windscreen. Cutting a sharp pointed corner into tape three times the same way is a nuisance and one slipped cut means repainting the whole frame. A cut stencil fits first time and thereby saves roughly an hour of frustration, which on this set is its main benefit.
If you are building the tropical version, reckon on the large filter reaching into the space under the windscreen. Fit it only after the cockpit has been sprayed, otherwise you will reach the lower edge of the frame with neither a brush nor a stream of paint.
Sprayed roundels look considerably better on matte desert paint than a decal, because they have no glossy rim. The remaining inscriptions and numbers are on the sheet enclosed. It pays to lay a thin coat of white under a sprayed insignia: a saturated red and blue otherwise need four or five passes over a brown-sand base and the paint builds up in the corners.
