Aerobonus, the figure range of the manufacturer Aires, offers in this item the pair of crew of the two-seat Hornet: a pilot and a rear-seat operator, together with an ejection seat. The figures are cast in resin, a material that in the large 1:32 scale holds the crisp folds of a flight suit, the straps and the shape of the helmet. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory that brings the cockpit or a scene around an already built model to life.
The F/A-18D is the two-seat version of the multirole carrier-borne Hornet, used by the US Navy and the US Marine Corps. In the rear cockpit sits a second crew member operating the systems of the machine. The crew wear a flight suit, a survival vest, a harness and a helmet with an oxygen mask; it is precisely these items that define the silhouette of the figures and at the same time give the main guide for painting.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw. Join them with cyanoacrylate glue and fill the seams at the shoulders and the waist with putty. Apply a primer before painting. A flight suit is built up by a matte mid shade into which a dark wash and fine lightening of the edges are set; the vest and the harness are distinguished by a different shade and light wear on the edges. Leave the helmet visor glossy and build the face up by gradual lightening. Paint the seat separately from the figure and join them only once finished, otherwise you will not reach all the surfaces.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The aircraft model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
