The designation 8.8 cm Pzgr.Patr.39/43 belongs to a complete armor-piercing round of 8.8 cm caliber, that is, to a projectile joined to its case. The abbreviation Pzgr. stands for the armor-piercing projectile, Patr. for the round as a whole, and the number 39/43 distinguishes the version intended for the 8.8 cm Kw.K.43 gun. The German Tiger Ausf. B heavy tank was armed with this gun. Distinguishing the shade of the case from the body of the projectile is worth the work, because it is exactly that contrast which makes the ammunition recognizable at first glance.
