An Aber turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale for the 88 mm KwK 43/3 gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers in the early version. According to the manufacturer's designation it is intended for the late form of the Porsche design turret of the Tiger Ausf. B tank, for the early production turret of the same tank and for the middle production series of the Jagdpanther tank destroyer. This is a detail accessory, not a kit.
The 88 mm gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers was the most powerful German tank weapon put into series service in the Second World War. It was shared by the heavy tank Tiger Ausf. B and by the Jagdpanther tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Panther tank. During production both the barrel and the muzzle brake changed in small ways, so the early and the late form differ in shape. This set matches the early variant, which was carried by late vehicles with the Porsche design turret, by early production turrets and by Jagdpanther tank destroyers of the middle production series.
A turned metal barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part from the kit. Cut off the plastic barrel as close to the mantlet as possible, level the seating surface and fit the metal part dry first, so that you can check the axis and any misalignment. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or with a two-part epoxy; ordinary plastic cement does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the metal thoroughly and go over it with a primer meant for metal, or the paint will chip off. The muzzle of the barrel is drilled, so both drilling and cleaning up the mold seam fall away.
This is a supplementary detail set for modelers, not a kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
