A metal detail set, not a kit. The box holds a turned barrel for the 122 mm M62-T2 tank gun with its distinctive muzzle brake and a barrel for the 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun. The parts replace the plastic barrels on a 1:35 T-10M model and a small photo-etched fret comes with them. They are made by the Polish company Aber, known for turned barrels in brass, aluminum and steel.
The T-10M (Object 272) was the last Soviet heavy tank built in series. It followed on from the IS family of heavy vehicles and entered service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. Against the earlier T-10 versions it received the longer 122 mm M62-T2 gun with a multi-baffle muzzle brake and two-plane weapon stabilization, plus 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine guns in place of the older 12.7 mm weapons. Series production ended in the mid-1960s, but the vehicles stayed in depots and reserve units for decades afterwards. The T-10M is thus the direct end point of the Soviet line of heavy tanks, a line taken over by medium-category main battle tanks.
Degrease the barrels with alcohol and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. The multi-baffle muzzle brake is the most noticeable feature of the whole weapon, so once it is glued, align it carefully with the axis of the barrel and with the turret. Lay a primer for metal surfaces over the metal, otherwise the paint sits badly. At the end, darken the inside of the brake and the muzzle, and add a little fine dust along the lower edge of the barrel if you like.
This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
