A sheet of dry transfers in 1:35 scale intended for dioramas and display scenes. It is neither a model nor a kit but a diorama accessory: period British posters that are applied to the walls of houses, wooden billboards, posts or the inner walls of buildings. The motifs refer to the Second World War period and serve to fill out the setting; technically they are printed period posters that fill the role of a detail in a scene on a model.
This is the most important difference and it is worth realizing before first use. The sheet must on no account be soaked in water. Cut the motif out together with its carrier film, lay it face down on the surface, hold it in place and burnish evenly with a blunt point; a bone burnisher, a toothpick or a pencil without lead all work. The motif is released from the carrier film in the process and transferred to the surface. Then lift the film slowly and at an angle and check whether the whole motif has transferred; if not, return the film to exactly its original position and burnish the unfinished spot again. Anyone who soaks the sheet in water will ruin it, because water disrupts the motif and the transfer will no longer be possible.
After transfer, a dry transfer has no edge of carrier film at all, so the poster looks as if it had been pasted or printed directly on the wall, which is exactly why it suits plaster, paper walls and plastic. The surface should be smooth, dry and free of dust; on a coarsely grained surface the motif transfers only partly, which on a worn poster looks natural and can be made use of. Seal the finished transfer with a light coat of matte or satin varnish. Fine the aging effect with a thin wash and a light dusting of pigment across the edges of the poster.
