Cast wooden barrels in 1:35 scale for a vehicle load and for a still life in a scene. Eighteen parts in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
Barrels belong to the objects whose value in a scene lies not in themselves but in their relation to the hardware. An empty truck bed looks like a model; a bed with barrels stacked on it looks like a vehicle carrying supplies somewhere. It is exactly that difference that separates a machine on display from a scene with action, and it costs no more than a few castings.
The package carries eighteen cast parts, that is enough for building either a tidy row on a load bed or an untidy heap by a wall. The cylindrical shape has one practical advantage: however you lay it, it looks convincing, which is not true of square crates.
The most common mistake is to set them out regularly over the whole area. Barrels are heavy, people do not carry them far, and so in reality they cluster by the place of unloading or lie about wherever they rolled. A group of three or four pieces by one wall says more to a viewer than twelve scattered evenly across a whole base.
A wooden barrel lives off the texture of its staves and its metal hoops. The base is painted in two or three closely related brown tones so that the individual staves are not identical, and the hoops are set apart with a dark metallic shade and rusty patches. The castings have to be degreased before painting. Neither a vehicle nor paints are in the package.
The spacing of the hoops is only faintly perceptible on the castings. Running the tip of a scalpel around the circumference will deepen it enough for a dry brush to catch it reliably.
