A masking set in 1:35 scale for spraying a German camouflage scheme from the end of the Second World War. The vinyl films are stuck straight onto the model and peeled off once it has been sprayed over.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation Faun covers a range of heavy vehicles of German manufacture, above all the L900 type and the postwar SLT 56 tractor. The Faun L900 was a three-axle truck which, in the war years, was used in combination with the Sonderanhänger 115 lowboy trailer for recovering damaged tanks and for carrying heavy material. Vehicles of this kind operated mainly in the rear areas, so they carried the same factory and field finishes as combat vehicles, including the late three-color schemes.
The package consists of self-adhesive vinyl masks cut into the shape of the camouflage fields. The modeler sprays the base color, sticks the films down, sprays over with the second shade and takes the masks off. The result is a sharp edge of the kind that cannot be reached with a brush or with freehand airbrushing. The material is flexible enough to be pressed down over rivets, frames and other small relief.
The recommended procedure is to spray from the lighter shade to the darker one and to let every coat dry thoroughly, otherwise the film will pull the paint away when it is peeled off. Anyone who wants to soften the pattern can put a thin strip under the mask and spray at an angle.
Before sticking the film down, it pays to press it once onto the back of your hand. That slightly contaminates the adhesive and it then holds more gently, which anyone working on a fragile finish will appreciate. Any remains of adhesive after removal are reliably taken off by a cotton swab moistened in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent.
