Aber 1:35 280 mm Gr. 39/42 shells for the Leopold railway gun is a set of turned metal ammunition from the Polish maker Aber for models of the German K5(E) railway gun in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of turned metal ammunition in 1:35 scale, not a standalone model. It holds 280 mm shells of the Gr. 39/42 type for the German K5(E) railway gun, nicknamed Leopold. The turned projectiles have a perfectly circular cross section, crisp edges on the driving bands and fine detail that cannot be carried over into injection-molded plastic. They work on the model as well as in a diorama beside the loading trolley or on an ammunition rack.
The K5(E) was a German 280 mm railway gun, which was both moved and fired from a railway chassis. The pieces deployed at Anzio were given the nicknames Leopold and Robert by Allied soldiers. The Gr. 39/42 shell was among the basic high-explosive fragmentation ammunition of this weapon; the long projectiles were brought up to the barrel by a special loading device, which made handling the ammunition a striking scene in its own right.
Wash and degrease the metal projectiles before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Lay down a thin primer and only then the covering shade; the driving bands can be shown off nicely by careful polishing or with a dark wash once dry. Mask in advance any areas you want to leave bare metal. For use in a diorama, light wear on the edges and fine dust from pigments work well.
This is a detail accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
