About product

German Wehrmacht jerrycans, DWC, 1943 pattern, open, 1:35

A set of 10 miniature twenty-liter jerrycans in 1:35 scale from the brand Elefant. It is not a model of a vehicle but an accessory meant for completing kits of military vehicles and for filling dioramas and vignettes. This variant carries the DWC marking on the shell and corresponds to the pattern of 1943; the cans are made with the closure open. They suit the can holders on fenders, the beds of vehicles and loose placement on the ground.

The real subject

The German twenty-liter can, commonly called the jerrycan, was among the most widespread containers for carrying fuel and water. Its recognition features are three handles side by side, thanks to which one or two people could carry the container, and the cross-shaped ribbing pressed into the sides, which strengthened the shell and left the contents room to expand. The closure was done with a folding lever, so it opened without tools. The individual production batches differed in the stamp on the shell, in the year of the pattern and in small points of the closure; it is precisely these details that set the items of the whole line apart.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts carefully from the casting gates and sand the remains with fine sandpaper. Do not round the sharp edges of the handles and the ribbing off while doing so, as they carry the whole impression of the casting. The material of the parts is stated on the box of the set: depending on whether it is injection-molded plastic or resin, reach for liquid modeling cement or for super glue. Wash resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap before painting and sand with respiratory protection. Paint over a thin coat of primer, otherwise the paint holds badly on a smooth surface. Credibility is helped by a dark wash into the ribbing and around the handles, dry brushing of the edges and fine scuffs with pigment; chipped paint and rusty traces around the closure look natural.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building German Second World War vehicles in 1:35
  • makers of dioramas and vignettes where small equipment and load are missing
  • builders who want to replace the coarser jerrycans from a kit
  • collectors who tell the individual production patterns and stamps apart

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is an accessory set of miniature jerrycans in 1:35 scale that a modeler adds to a kit of a military vehicle or to a diorama. The vehicle itself has to be obtained separately.

According to the name it is 10 pieces in one package. Further details of the contents are stated on the box of the set.

They are details from the name that set the individual variants of this line apart. DWC refers to the stamp on the shell of the can and the year to the pattern of that production period, thanks to which the equipment of a vehicle can be matched to the period being built.

The material of the parts is stated on the box of the set. The method differs: injection-molded plastic is glued with liquid modeling cement, resin parts with super glue, and before painting they are washed free of the remains of mold release agent.

They are not. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
