1:35 Girls

Girls in 1:35 scale from Plusmodel

A set of two civilian female figures in resin from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. The package holds five resin parts from which the two figures are assembled. The castings are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Civilian figures are among the most useful accessories in diorama work, because they give a scene a human dimension and a contrast where otherwise only equipment and uniforms would stand.

What the figures are for

• Bringing a street or village scene in 1:35 scale to life.
• A contrast of civilian life beside military equipment.
• A scale reference, thanks to which a vehicle reads more believably.
• A subject in its own right for practicing the painting of skin, hair and fabric.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in warm soapy water, so that the mold release residue the paint holds badly on is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and sand the surfaces carefully, and protect your airways while sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a thin layer of base coat before painting, ideally sprayed. Paint the figure separately from the base and glue it to the diorama only at the end. Build the skin up in layers and soften the transitions with glazes; fabric, by contrast, will take a stronger contrast between the folds and the lit edges. A matte varnish at the end evens the sheen of the whole figure out.
