A sizeable injection molded kit of a long-distance coach in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Roden. The parts are of polystyrene on sprue frames, they are glued with modeling cement for plastic and the model is painted once it has been assembled. A bus in 1:35 is an unusual subject that goes well with military and civilian equipment of the same scale, and in a diorama it works as a prominent centerpiece.
The Silverside is an intercity coach designed for the Greyhound Lines company, one of the largest operators of long-distance bus transport in the United States. It got its nickname from the polished aluminum skin with longitudinal fluting, which gave the vehicle its characteristic silver appearance. The layout with the engine at the rear and a roomy passenger compartment was among the most modern things long-distance transport offered in its day, and the postwar PD-3751 form from the end of the 1940s is the peak of this generation. The vehicle became one of the icons of American road transport of the middle of the twentieth century.
Finish and paint the interior with the seats before you close the body up — once it is glued you will no longer get inside. The large smooth sides are the most demanding part of the project: sand the joints carefully, polish the surface and definitely use a primer, because every unevenness will show on a glossy silver surface. Deal with the metallic appearance with an airbrush and metallic paints — the pigment in them settles to the bottom, so mix the paint thoroughly and apply it onto a smooth surface only as one of the last coats, because it is hard to mask and to overspray. The glazing is a large area on a bus: fit the windows after painting, glue them with cement for clear parts and mask the window frames rather than painting them with a brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
