About product

Handles and lifting eyes for US postwar armor, 1:35 scale, ELEFANT

This resin set from the brand ELEFANT replaces the handles and lifting eyes on models of American equipment of the postwar period. It is not a kit but an accessory for the modeler who wants to replace the shape-simplified parts from a plastic mold with more faithful castings.

Why swap plastic parts for resin ones

Handles and lifting eyes are among the thinnest elements on a real vehicle that are visible from outside. An injection mold, however, cannot mold them at a scale thickness, because it needs draft angles for release and the material has to flow into the whole cavity. The result tends to be handles noticeably thicker than in reality, often with a parting line across the whole arch. Cast resin parts can manage a thin section, and once fitted to a model the difference shows mainly in the silhouette and in the shadow under the arch of the handle, where plastic parts usually have no gap at all.

Usage and painting tips

First cut the original plastic handles off and level the area with a file or abrasive paper, so that the new part seats on a flat surface. Mark and pre-drill the holes for the pins with a micro drill; the seating will then be accurate and a fraction of a drop of glue will do. Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm water with detergent and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. When painting, an airbrush with heavily thinned paint pays off, because a heavy coat from a brush visually thickens the fine work and fills exactly the gap for which the parts were replaced. At the end, bring out the shadow under the handles with a dark wash.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of American postwar armor in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers who want to replace thick handles from a plastic mold
  • More experienced builders with experience of cutting off and drilling
  • Anyone interested in detail work on the exterior of the hull and the turret

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.

FAQ

The number of parts in the package is stated on the box. Before building, count how many positions on your model you want to change and choose the number of packages accordingly.

Yes, otherwise the new part would not seat. Cut the handle off with a scalpel or a saw, level the area with abrasive paper and fill any remaining dimples with putty.

Best with an airbrush and heavily thinned paint in several thin coats. A heavy coat from a brush visually thickens a fine handle and fills the gap under the arch.

Rather not. It calls for a steady hand when cutting the original parts off, work with tweezers and cyanoacrylate glue, which allows no later correction of position.
