A printed paper sheet for dioramas in 1:35 scale. It ranks among the accessories for a scene: the motifs are cut out of the sheet and glued on as a paper prop. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal. The content of the sheet is a period depiction that the modeler uses solely so that a scene from a present-day conflict looks believable.
Flag motifs most often appear in dioramas on a rod, on the antenna of a vehicle, on a railing or attached to a building. From the point of view of building a scene their task is a single thing: to complete the context of the display and to give the composition a vertical element. Paper holds its shape, unlike a decal, so the prop can be formed into a limp hang or into waves, depending on what dynamics the scene is meant to have.
Cut the motif out with a new blade along a rule. Fold it over thin wire or thread and glue it with PVA glue in a thin layer; while the paper has not yet dried, form the folds in it. Go over the white break at the edge with a thin brush loaded with a matching color. Do the aging in moderation – rub the edges gently, put a thinned wash into the folds and add a hint of dust pigment according to the setting of the scene. Seal it all with matte clear coat, so that the sheen of the printing matches the surrounding surfaces and the paper is not recognized.
