A basic photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler for the early production version of the heavy tank destroyer. It is not a kit of the vehicle - the package holds accessory metal parts only and is cut for one particular kit, Tamiya 35295. A basic set of this type tends to be a compromise that makes sense: it changes neither the shape of the model nor calls for cutting into the hull, and only replaces the elements where plastic is too thick in principle - the grilles, the grab handles, the tool clamps, the eyes and the thin sheet-metal stiffeners.
The Jagdtiger was a German heavy tank destroyer of the last phase of the Second World War, derived from the chassis of a heavy tank and fitted with a 128 mm gun in a fixed, heavily armored superstructure. It was the heaviest series-produced tracked fighting vehicle of its kind, which had a direct technical consequence: the chassis and the gearbox were at the limit of what they could bear, and a considerable part of the vehicles was lost away from combat through breakdown or lack of fuel. The pieces built divide into two production batches, which differ in the arrangement of the running gear; the designation Early concerns the earlier one.
With a more extensive set it pays to prepare your workplace in advance. The basis is a hard flat surface, a sharp scalpel and tweezers with smooth jaws - serrated jaws will impress a mark into the metal that you will no longer cover. Make the bends in a bending jig or between two razor blades, always along the marked line and in one stroke; repeated working back and forth tires the metal and the part cracks. When a stiffer brass part has to be bent to a sharp angle, brief annealing over a flame to a faintly red shade and cooling will help - the metal softens and lets itself be shaped. Degrease everything before gluing, glue with super glue in a small amount and reckon with the fact that once it has set the position can no longer be put right. Proceed in logical groups of parts and do not hurry over the whole fret at once.
