Responsibility details are not available.
The corner of a farm building, a hollowed stone trough by the wall and above it a hand pump, where soldiers lead horses and fill their canteens. It is exactly a place like that which turns a column passing through a village into a stop where the behavior of people can be read. A trough used to be a natural gathering point and on a diorama it has the same function: it draws figures to itself and gives them a reason to stand where they stand.
The stone and the wooden version differ not only in material but also in where they belong. A carved stone watering trough stood on a village green or by a well for decades and tended to be worn smooth into a rounded shape. A wooden trough, by contrast, was built in a hurry, lasted a few seasons and is recognized by its straight edges, the joints between the boards and the hoops drawn around it.
Contents: the set brings 14 cast parts, so it is enough for several separate corners rather than just one.
Painting stone: it pays to work from the lightest tone downward. A light gray base is laid down, then a dark wash into the joints comes, and finally the edges are picked out with an almost white dry brush. The inside of the trough is kept dark and greenish, because water stood in it and algae settled there.
Water inside: the simplest way is to pour two thin layers of gloss resin into a blackened bottom and let each dry separately. One heavy layer draws up toward the walls and the surface then looks sunken.
