1:35 M10 Tank Destroyer / M10 II C Achilles is a Quickwheel masking set for the road wheels, cut for the Tamiya kit. It serves to separate the rubber tire band from the rim cleanly during painting.

This is not a kit or an extra part, but an aid for painting. The masks are cut to the shape of the road wheels from a particular kit, here from the M10 model by Tamiya. With this range the designation of the target kit matters: every manufacturer makes its wheels a different size and with different detail, so a sheet cut for one molding will not fit another.
Both the M10 and its British version, the Achilles, stand on the chassis of the Sherman medium tank with bogie suspension on vertical springs. There are three bogies on each side, each with two rubber-tired road wheels, with a return roller sitting above the bogie. The drive sprocket is at the front, the idler wheel at the rear. Altogether, then, twelve road wheels have to be dealt with, plus the rollers. The road wheels of this family come both in an open-spoked form and as a solid pressed disc. On the spoked type you can see through the openings, so paint applied from one side shows through on the other and masking has to be done on both faces. The bogies also sit tightly together and little room is left between them for fingers, which is why it pays to paint the wheels before you seat them in the hull.
Once you take the mask off, the edge between rim and tire band is sharp and dry. Only then comes the dark wash, which runs into the spokes and up to the edge of the tire band and softens the edge optically. Dust follows, applied dry with pigment to the underside of the hull and to the bogies; with mud the principle is that it cakes on the inner face of the wheels and in the space between bogie and rim rather than evenly over the whole surface. The running surface of the rubber tire band wears off to gray on a vehicle in service, so a light dry-brushing in a paler tone around the outer circumference suits it well.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package. Check before ordering that your kit matches the one the set is cut for.
