About product

Instrument panel for the Marmon Herrington Mk.I and Mk.II in 1:35 scale, late style

This photo-etched set is an aftermarket accessory for the interior, not a model of the vehicle. Yahu Models supplies it with the instruments printed in color and finished, so the panel only has to be separated from the sheet and fitted. The late style in the name is a distinguishing detail: the instrument panel of this vehicle changed during production and the set matches the later form, not the early one. Before buying, therefore, check which variant your kit and the particular vehicle you have chosen have.

The real subject

The Marmon Herrington was an armored car used in the Second World War, built on a commercial truck chassis with all-wheel drive and given an armored body. It was created in the Union of South Africa and was used above all in North and East Africa, where its range and its cross-country ability were what counted. The Mk.I and Mk.II versions differed in the layout of the body, in armament and in details; many were modified in the field to suit the needs of the units. The driver's compartment was cramped and the instrument panel was taken over from the civilian chassis, supplemented with military instruments.

Usage tips

Cut the panel out with photo-etch scissors or separate it with a scalpel and a pressing cut, and file the tabs flush. It is glued in spots with thin super glue; when fitting it into the interior of the vehicle it is best to try the fit dry first, because the plastic part tends to be thicker and has to be thinned. Finish and paint the interior of the armored car before you fit the panel, so that the printing does not get dirty. If you plan an open driver's hatch or open doors, it pays to add a little wear around the instruments as well: a dry brush around the edge of the panel, not a wash over the dials.

Who the accessory is for

  • For builders of the Marmon Herrington armored car in 1:35 scale
  • For models with open hatches or doors, where the interior shows
  • For modelers who want faithful instruments without painting tiny details
  • For building the late version of the vehicle, which the set matches

This is an accessory for the interior. The kit of the vehicle, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

The instrument panel of the vehicle changed during production. The set matches the later form of the panel, not the early one, so it is worth knowing which variant you are building.

It is not. It is a stand-alone photo-etched accessory for the interior. The vehicle has to be bought as a kit separately.

Then not much of it will be seen. It makes the most sense on a model with open doors or a hatch, or in a diorama with a driver figure.

In spots with thin super glue or with a glue for photo-etch. It is best to thin the plastic underneath first, so that the panel sits at the right depth.
