This set of photo-etched brass sheet from Voyager Model is prepared for the Trumpeter 001522 plastic kit. It replaces plastic parts that for production reasons are thicker than the scale calls for, and adds small items that cannot be molded.
The Challenger 2 is a British main battle tank introduced in the 1990s. What sets it apart technically is a 120 mm rifled gun, whereas most contemporary tanks use a smoothbore. The vehicle has composite armor, and its typical look includes the side covers over the running gear, stowage baskets and a series of clamps on the turret. Those external features are always simplified in plastic, and a photo-etched set handles them at a realistic thickness.
With photo-etched parts it pays to plan the sequence of steps in advance. Parts that lie beneath others have to be fitted first, otherwise you will not get them into place later. Deal with large surfaces such as the fenders and the side covers before the hull is closed up, while they are still accessible from all sides. Fragile clamps, grab handles and antennas, on the other hand, should be left right to the end, ideally until after the main painting, so that they do not break off during handling. Before you glue anything, try every part dry, fine-tune the bend and only then reach for the glue.
This is an add-on set for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
