This brass photo-etched set in 1:35 scale serves to complete a plastic kit of the modern American M1A2 Abrams tank in TUSK II fit. What it holds is metal detail, not a vehicle: with it the modeler replaces coarser plastic parts with thin brass sheet and adds features that cannot be faithfully produced by molding. The set is developed for the Dragon 3536 kit.
The M1A2 Abrams is an upgraded version of the American main battle tank with a digitized fire control system and an extended view for the commander. The TUSK II fit adds, among other things, armor tiles on the sides, a remote controlled weapon station and protection for the area around the loader's hatch. On a model that translates into a large number of thin sheet pieces, clips, eyes and brackets, which in plastic are inevitably oversized.
The key to a good result with photo-etched parts is a crisp bend on an exact line. A modeling bending tool with an edge does the best job; without one a razor blade or a thin steel ruler pressed exactly onto the marked groove will help, and the part is folded over it. Always bend so that the etched groove is on the inside of the bend. Form longer sheet gradually along the whole length rather than from the edge, otherwise the bend will ripple. Try small parts dry in place before gluing, because brass tires quickly with repeated bending and cracks.
A photo-etched set is an accessory for modelers. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
